Seems like you rarely, if ever see the bronzed baby shoes any more but when I was growing up, there was hardly a house that didn't have them. Yes, especially during the 60s and 70s. immortalizing your baby's shoes in bronze was all the rage.
Since I rarely ever see them anymore, I wondered if this tradition was still being carried on. A quick Google, shows that there are still companies around that are carrying on this time honored tradition. Obviously there are mother's (yes it's a mother thing) that are still having the shoes bronzed.
So, in honor of this tradition that dates back to I don't know when, here are my own bronzed shoes.
Thanks for the post. I had long forgotten about bronzed baby shoes. I remember seeing them as a child. No one bronzed them at our house, my parents kept them for the next child.
ReplyDeleteHey, Mav. Thanks for this post. It reminded me of something I still need to do! My own mother didn't have our shoes bronzed, but I did intend to do those of my daughters. I've actually had the shoes on display in our playroom (turned music room) ever since the youngest outgrew them. Yes, that's they both wore the same pair (almost 7 years apart), and believe or not, they were handed down to my oldest daughter from a cousin! I know now that every child is supposed to have their own "first shoes", but I guess I didn't know that then, so....lol.
